Twins, Jake and Drew, live in a rural town with a small population. They were homeless, living together in a shared car on a rural property, along a dirt road, over an hour from the nearest atWork Australia office.
They found it hard to find ongoing work which had impacted their living situation. Job Coach, Indigo, got to know the brothers via phone appointments.
Indigo describes the twins as ‘loveable country lads’, and she was determined to find them suitable employment.
She supported them with a fuel voucher so they could attend the Batemans Bay First Steps to Success event at the atWork Australia office.
At the event, they were introduced to Employer Engagement Consultant Joanne, who had an idea of an employer that would be able to work with their circumstances.
She introduced them both to Ben from Avada Traffic. Ben was very understanding of their needs such as the brothers sharing a single car and told them about a contract they were taking on for the Council where the work would only be a 15 to 20 min drive for them.
Joanne and Indigo worked with Jake and Drew to complete the application, and financially supported them with the required tickets, work wear and radio’s they would need.
Then Jake and Drew started their shifts and were connected to In-Work Support Coach Charly. Their new team leader, Jess, expressed she was happy with their work ethic and personality, and they were a great fit for the team.
“Drew couldn’t wait to show us his new car that he bought with his first pay,” said Joanne.
“They have also got an old caravan on the land now to live in and are building their own sustainable material house. They are just beaming with pride and are so happy and grateful for all the help from Avada Traffic and atWork Australia.”
