Looking for employment can be challenging, overwhelming and an exhausting time in a person’s life. For a person living with disability, injury or health condition, this process can be significantly harder. Not only are they faced with the standard pressures of looking for employment, but they must also manage their health concerns, deal with discrimination, unconscious bias and other people’s beliefs about their ability. However, securing employment is just the beginning of the employment journey. The next phase of the journey is starting work, learning how to thrive in an unfamiliar environment and becoming a valuable member of the team. The good news is, with atWork Australia the support does not stop, we’ll tailor our services to ensure our clients are supported and set up for success.

As an In Work Support Coach, Todd can have a lasting impact on his client’s lives. While this role can be challenging, because you’re supporting people managing various health conditions, it can also be incredibly rewarding to support people in vulnerable situations to achieve their employment goals. “I enjoy receiving positive feedback from my clients, this could be hearing they have secured their driver’s license, purchased a car, booked a holiday or landing their dream job,” Said Todd.
Upon reflection on his six-year journey with atWork Australia, Todd recalled countless highlights. A special memory for Todd is when he supported his client, Zach, to achieve his employment goals. When Zach and Todd first met, Zack had low confidence in his ability and thought no employer would hire him. Zach outlined to Todd that he had three main goals: develop new skills, obtain his driver’s license and secure local employment. Slowly, but surely, the pair began working together and have since ticked off each of Zach’s goals.
After 15 years in the industry, Todd is still passionate about supporting others to achieve their goals and seeing the impact that employment has on a person’s life.
“I enjoy supporting my clients to maintain long term employment. Every day I am faced with new challenges and no two days are the same, which keeps things interesting,” said Todd.
