Agostinho had recently moved to the Sydney CBD area in search of more job opportunities.
As a singe parent, and the primary caregiver for his children, he decided to make the move from a more rural area in the hopes of securing a good job.
Despite his consistent effort to apply for work, he had been unsuccessful for the past three years.
“When I first met Agostinho, he was living with low confidence and mental health due to the pressure of looking for work while caring for his children alone,” said Job Coach, Tina.
Tina took the time to get to know Agostinho. She worked with him to tailor his job search, update his resume and supported him with interview preparation to help build his confidence.
Agostinho was also referred to our in-house Wellness Services for support with his mental health and wellbeing.
“I guided Agostinho to work in the construction industry, which suited both his skills and caring responsibilities,” said Tina.
While he was searching for work, the atWork Australia team supported him to keep his public transport card topped up and provided him with food vouchers.
“This support made a big difference in Agostinho’s journey. Having help with transport, food, and clothing eased his worries and allowed him to focus fully on preparing for work and interviews,” said Tina.
With the practical, and emotional support from atWork Australia, Agostinho felt more motivated and hopeful.
He began to apply for roles within the construction industry and successfully landed a job as a scaffolder.
The atWork Australia team then supported him to purchase work related clothing to start the role.
Agostinho has now reached a new milestone and has been working in the role for the last six months.
