28-year-old Alys is a mother to a young child. She was ready to return to work to support her family. Alys also lives with a vision impairment.
Alys was connected to atWork Australia in Charlestown after a recommendation. She shared with her Job Coach, Meldi, that she was ready to find ‘work for life’ but needed support to find work.
With a young child, Alys needed to work shifts that would support her family. Living with vision impairment, Alys was also reliant on finding transport as she was unable to drive.
Meldi worked with Alys to refresh her resume, and they discussed employers in the area.
Alys was connected to a small business employer that Job Coach, Meldi had worked with before. Meldi knew them to be a supportive and understanding employer.
She supported Alys to prepare for the interview, including practicing questions. This helped Alys feel confident during the interview and she landed the job.
“My employer is great, she’s been really flexible with my shifts, especially if I can’t get transport,” said Alys.
atWork Australia’s InWork Support team work closely with both Alys and her employer to support her to maintain her employment.
“Alys said she enjoys being back in the workforce and keeping things clean and tidy every day,” said Meldi.
“She is able to buy things for her baby, and she is now saving up to buy a house with her husband,” said Alys.
