54-year-old Workforce Australia client, Ann*, had spent the last 12 years working in childcare.
When she started working with her Job Coach, Sharron, she shared that she felt stagnant and no longer fulfilled in the role. However, she was anxious about starting her career over, especially due to perceived age-related barriers.
Together with her Job Coach, Sharron, Ann decided to pursue Aged Care and Support work.
She was referred to a program called Career in Care where she completed qualifications to prepare her for the industry.
In addition, atWork Australia supported her to gain her NDIS and working with vulnerable persons checks.
Ann successfully completed the program, and her Job Coach was at her graduation to cheer her on and celebrate her achievement.
After participating in the program, Ann decided she was on the right path and enrolled in a Certificate III in Aged Care, to open further job possibilities.
While she was studying, she landed a traineeship in aged care.
atWork Australia financially supported her to purchase clothing for her new role, and fuel to get to, and from, the traineeship for the first few weeks.
“Ann let us know she is really enjoying work and study,” said Sharron.
“She has learnt new skills and is motivated and excited with her fresh start as she grows within the industry.”
“Changing careers at 54 has been a rewarding and satisfying experience,” said Ann.
