25-year-old Disability Employment Services client, Anthony, was looking for his first job.
He connected with Job Coach, Ananya, for assistance to take that first step into his future.
Anthony had completed various certificates before including a Certificate III in Hospitality, Certificate II in Business and a Certificate II in Retail. However, he still wasn’t sure what direction he wanted to take for his first job.
Ananya spoke to Anthony about the courses he had done, his likes and dislikes and his long-term goals to help guide him into a job that was the right fit for him.
“Anthony, and I got down to his top three choices. One of which included working at a local sports club,” said Ananya.
“We then looked at sports clubs he could get to by public transport, and I got to work calling them on Anthony’s behalf.”
Meanwhile, Ananya recommended to Anthony that having his responsible service of alcohol (RSA) and responsible gambling certification (RSG) would also be helpful.
Ananya soon found an opportunity at a local café that while not a sports club, still matched the rest of Anthony’s goals.
She called the employer and was able to organise an interview for Anthony. Together they prepared and practiced for the interview.
“All Anthony’s hard work paid off as he was full of confidence and motivation during his interview,” said Ananya.
Anthony is now working independently in his first ever job.
“Anthony is now independently going to work and catching public transport. He is performing well, and his parents are extremely proud of him,” said Ananya.
