Disability Employment Services client, Hulya, lives with mental health including panic attacks, and anxiety. Hulya finds being in public spaces challenging.
She came to atWork Australia in Laidley and shared with Job Coach Emma that she wasn’t sure what kind of work she was interested in.
Emma and Hulya spent their first few meetings discussing her day-to-day interests, and what things she enjoyed.
They also considered her mental health and looked at what kinds of work would suit both Hulya’s interests and her health.
Hulya decided she wanted to pursue a role in cleaning, as she would be working by herself for the majority of the time, and it was an activity she enjoyed doing.
While Hulya was looking for work, she received financial assistance from atWork Australia for groceries and essentials.
Shortly after deciding she wanted to pursue a role in the cleaning industry, Emma organised for Hulya to interview at a local cleaning company.
“The cleaning company works with atWork Australia frequently,” said Emma.
“So, I knew they were a family-based cleaning company who would be understanding and supportive of Hulya.”
Emma supported Hulya to prepare for her interview, with practice questions and showing her how to highlight her skills for the role.
She was successful in the interview and has now been working in the role for six months, which is a major milestone for Hulya. Hulya continues to be supported by Emma, who is now her In Work Support Coach.
“Hulya has just reached a milestone in her employment. She has been employed for six months and is thriving in her role,” said Emma.
