Disability Employment Services client Beck* has recently moved to Launceston in Tasmania.
First nations client and mother, Beck was looking for a less stressful life and as part of that she was hoping to enter a new industry for work.
She had previously worked in corporate office environments but was looking for something that would allow her to spend more time with her family.
With her Job Coach, Tara, they discussed possible new industries to meet Beck’s goals of flexible hours, and less stress.
They settled on hospitality, cleaning, or working with the NDIS as potential options.
Tara suggested to Beck that she keep an eye on online job searching platform Seek, to see if any roles sparked her interest. She let Beck know that atWork Australia could assist with any checks or qualifications required for any roles she was interested in.
Before her next appointment, Beck had found a hospitality role as a waitress and had started working.
Tara reminded her of allied health services available through atWork Australia if she needed support during the transition.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying my new position at my local café. I found the first two weeks challenging as it was a change of pace from working in my usual office environments, but I enjoy the work life balance I now have,” said Beck.
atWork Australia financially supported Beck to purchase new work shoes for a kitchen environment.
Beck will continue to be supported by the In Work Support team at atWork Australia.
“I’m now working school hours and have more time to spend with my daughter,” said Beck.
