23-year-old Blaze’s long-term goal was to secure employment as a cafe worker or catering assistant, where she could connect with customers and the community.

However, with limited work experience and low self-confidence Blaze needed assistance to reach her employment goals.

Job Coach, Helen, helped Blaze break her long-term goal into smaller goals to help her progress towards employment.

They started with focusing on self-confidence by enrolling her in driving lessons. She was also connected to upskilling through a short course in customer service, and gaining her responsible service of alcohol ticket, and responsible gambling ticket.

Blaze also attended atWork Australia’s First Steps to Success events which brings employers, RTO’s and community organisations together in the one place.

“These activities have tremendously supported Blaze’s confidence in engaging with employers, training organisations and the community,” said Helen.

With new skills in hand, they then focused on polishing her resume and interview skills.

“Resume writing, cover letters and interview techniques was a goal Blaze wanted to work on,” said Helen.

“I connected her to online modules through Candidate Coach and worked with her to create a resume she was proud of.”

Blaze was also connected to external youth service, Headspace, for additional mentoring and support.

Soon Job Coach, Helen, heard of a role that would be perfect for Blaze. A catering assistant at the local hospital. She was referred to atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement Consultant, Mary who screened her and put her forward for the role.

She successfully landed the job, and atWork Australia provided work shoes and clothes.

Blaze was so happy to get this job as it is what she wanted to do and it’s close to home.

“Blaze has built more self-belief, confidence, and her attitude is more positive after securing a role that fits with her goals and interests,” said Helen.
