Workforce Australia client, Chol, had been living overseas for a few years. When he returned to Wanneroo, Western Australia, he hadn’t been able to land any work.
At 50 years old, Chol has years of experience working as a process worker in food production factories. However, as English was his second language he found it challenging to approach employers about work due to this language barrier.
He shared with his Job Coach, Rylea, that he wanted to return to factory work. He also shared that he felt he needed support with his confidence during interviews to perform his best.
He had received feedback before, that employers were concerned about his communication skills.
Rylea supported Chol to gain his white card. She then organised a meeting with Chol and local employer engagement team member Ashley.
Together they went through the jobs board, and found a factory process worker role that Chol was interested in.
Ashley organised for a walk through of the factory and interview for Chol. Having worked with this employer before, they supported Chol to prepare for the interview and learn what the employer was looking for.
The atWork Australia team also advocated to the employer on Chol’s behalf. Explaining that he was very reliable, always showed up on time for his appointments, and would be a very enthusiastic and experienced team member.
Feeling confident when he attended the walk through of the factory, Chol landed the job.

He is now being supported by In Work support, with the team on hand to help him through any communication challenges he might have.
