Workforce Australia client, Christopher, had been recently released when he was connected with atWork Australia for support to find employment.
Christopher shared with his Job Coach Alex, that he felt out of touch with the local labour market, and with no recent work experience, he lacked confidence.
Alex worked with Christopher to help him regain his confidence and build his knowledge around workplace requirements.
To begin with, Alex referred Christopher to the ‘Ready, Set, Go’ program to learn the basic requirements of Workforce Australia such as the points system and how to report.
He was then referred into the Money Minded program to learn basic budgeting skills, and support systems to help him with his finances.
Alex also shared with him her knowledge of current information around applying for work, work preparation, and the types of work available in the local area.
Christopher then completed a licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane, and Alex helped him to purchase the personal protective equipment he would need to work in that industry.
Through all of this support, Christopher began to see the skills he had and could offer an employer. It showed Christopher that Alex had a belief that he could achieve the job he was aiming for.
“Christopher has learnt relevant knowledge and skills applicable to the current labour market and how to fit into the workplace,” said Alex.
“This helped him gain an understanding of what he can achieve, boosted his confidence, and he became motivated to return to employment.”
