First Nations client, Jessica, found meaningful employment through the WorkFoundations program partnership with employer, Coomaditchie.
Coomaditchie unites communities through culture, art, and bush regeneration. Bridging gaps, empowering youth, fostering pride, and building a brighter, inclusive future. The program Work-Fit provided paid employment up to six months within the award-winning Arts program, bush foods and regeneration initiatives, as well as cultural tourism ventures.
Jessica is working in design and marketing. As an early school leaver, this opportunity provides Jessica with a platform to launch into a meaningful career.
“Jessica has come leaps and bounds since starting at Coomaditchie,” said atWork Australia Service Manager, Naomi Day.
“She has grown from being very shy into a confident and capable young woman who is now willing to step well outside her comfort zone.”
Jessica is learning key work skills she will be able to take with her such as confidently answering the phone, participating in media interviews and working on design projects.
She is also working alongside her grandmother, Lorraine Brown, creating commissioned artworks for a range of projects.
“She offers thoughtful suggestions for improvement, is proud of her artwork and sales, enjoys developing new product ideas, and has set goals to deliver workshops in local schools and daycares. She has gained confidence, self-belief, and is now motivated to work toward gaining her licence and securing housing.”
“My confidence has improved. I love working alongside the artists, learning about their artworks and their stories that they tell about where they come from,” said Jessica.
“I enjoy the interactions with the school kids that do the workshops/art programs also.
“I am very pleased to be employed. I love learning new skills and interacting with new people every day,” said Jessica.
