60-year-old, Donna, already had her employment goal in mind when she entered the atWork Australia office in Munno Parra.
She wanted to help people, and work as a support worker. She just needed a little bit of help to get there.
Donna needed her first aid certificate and a qualification to assist with medication. atWork Australia financially supported Donna to gain those requirements and connected her to training providers.
She then needed to complete various checks such as her working with children check and working with vulnerable people check.
“Donna had some trouble with her clearances and often called me for help,” said Natalie, Donna’s Job Coach.
“I was more than happy to offer the guidance and support she needed.”
Once she had all the checks and qualifications she needed, she began to attend interviews, with atWork Australia by her side supporting with fuel vouchers to attend those interviews.
Soon Donna landed work, in her dream role as a support worker.
“Donna come to the office the day she got told she had the job and said that she just had to come and tell me. She was just so happy, she even brought cake in to show her appreciation,” said Natalie.
The atWork Australia team continues to be at Donna’s side while she is working, recently supporting Donna to purchase some new clothing for her role.
Donna is also currently completing higher qualifications to progress in her career. atWork Australia will financially support Donna to get to her placement location in Adelaide in the new year and will be there to provide any extra support she needs as she progresses in her role.
