Disability Employment Services client, Trent, started working with Job Coach, Kiri-Lee at the Mowbray atWork Australia office in Tasmania.
Trent shared that he had a passion for the hospitality industry and would like to turn his passion into a lifelong career. Preferably with an employer he could grow and learn with.
Together with Kiri-Lee, they started to take the steps needed for Trent to reach that goal.
The first step was to upskill Trent for the hospitality industry. atWork Australia supported Trent to complete a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and food handling course.
With these new skills, he began to apply and attend interviews. However, after a few interviews he was yet to be successful.
Kiri-Lee supported Trent, helping him maintain his motivation. She encouraged him by sharing that they would find an employer who would be willing to give him a go and benefit from his passion and drive. She began to contact employers on his behalf.
One day Kiri-Lee came across a job advertisement that would be a perfect fit for Trent. She called the employer to see if she could refer him, and within a week Trent had an interview.
Kiri-Lee helped Trent prepare for the interview and supported him to purchase interview clothing to look and feel his best and be his most confident self in his interview.
They organsied the checks he would need including a police check.
Trent aced the interview. He then successfully started as a shop assistant in hospitality. After three weeks, Trent had already received a promotion to higher duties.
“Trent is now able to better provide for his family, and it has also boosted his self-esteem,” said Job Coach, Kiri-Lee.
“His employer said that he was so impressed with Trent and how hard he worked, and how well he got on with the team and customers from day one,” said Kiri-Lee.
