Disability Employment Services client, Felicia, was referred to atWork Australia by the Drug Court of NSW.
She was ready to turn her life around and was looking for employment. When Felicia was connected to the atWork Australia team in Liverpool, she was living in unstable housing.
“When I met Felicia, she was a warm bubbly person with a beautiful smile that had a rocky past,” said atWork Australia Service Manager, Frances.
“She was enthusiastic, had a lot of hope and was open to anything to gain meaningful employment.”
Frances felt very confident in Felicia, and on the day of her very first appointment with atWork Australia, Frances called an employer on her behalf.
Frances was familiar with the employer and knew it would be a good fit for Felicia.
“With her bubbly personality, I knew she could shine in a customer service role,” said Frances.
The employer agreed to an interview and three days later Felicia had a work trial as a kitchen hand.
“Felicia showed up, did well in her trial and managed to secure employment that very week,” said Frances.
Since working, Felicia has been able to secure stable housing in a two-bedroom unit.
She is now supported by the In Work Support team who are currently helping Felicia purchase some new shoes to help her in the kitchen.
“Work has had a positive impact in Felicia’s life. She is feeling happier and more confident,” said Frances.
