Fresh out of university, Keith* needed additional support to get his foot in the door of employment

25-year-old, Workforce Australia client, Keith, had minimal work experience and hadn’t worked at all in the past six years.

He was focusing on his study, completing a diploma in screen media, and a bachelor’s degree in design at the University of Tasmania.

When he finished his degree, he had expected to find work in the industry. He was referred to atWork Australia in Ravenswood when he realised the local labour market in this industry was minimal and competition fierce.

Keith worked with his Job Coach Nicole to discuss his employment goals.

Nicole referred Keith to the local jobs program for technology skills in the workplace. The program provided Keith with a good opportunity to network, and he learned more about the local labour market.

Nicole and Keith continued to look for job opportunities and when the local employer engagement team advertised a customer service role with a large national employer, Nicole thought of Keith.

“This opportunity would be a foot in the door to a large national employer where they may be opportunities to use his degree in the future,” said Nicole.

“The office, communication and people skills he will gain from the role will also support his future career aspirations.”

“With support, Keith now has his foot in the door with a large employer,” said atWork Australia Job Coach, Nicole.
