At 50 years old, and unemployed, John’s confidence was impacted. He had given up.

When he first met with atWork Australia, Job Coach, Mim, encouraged him to go for his dreams. They talked about his interests, skills and abilities, and John decided he wanted to pursue a new career in Information Technology (IT).
Living in a regional area, online study was the best option for John. Mim connected him to an online Certificate III course in IT.
Mim could see John was enjoying his study and looking forward to the possibilities. Unfortunately, John’s father became unwell, and he had to pause his study to take care of his father full time.
In December 2025, John returned to atWork Australia. With lots of support,
Reassurance, and study sessions with Mim, John was able to complete his course and gain back his confidence and belief in himself.
“I provided tailored support to John by encouraging him when he wanted to give up,” said Job Coach, Mim.
“We set small goals so that John had achievable benchmarks to reach and a path to follow. I was very proud of him when he completed his study.”
John is now looking forward to becoming employed in the IT industry.
“He wants to go on holidays and have a fulfilling life that would make his dad proud.”
