64-year-old John had lost his confidence when it came to re-entering the workforce. He felt no one would hire him due to his age.
The atWork Australia team in Lakemba, saw a need for John to boost his confidence and his Job Coach, Shuprity, suggested he enroll in an upcoming training program.
The program called Identify and Prepare for Employment Program (IPEP) is a short program that focuses on qualifications and soft skills needed for specific roles with our employer partners.
In this course, John completed micro-credentials to upskill in housekeeping and edited his resume to align with his news skills and the industry.
They worked on soft skills important for the industry such as time management and workplace health and safety.
Towards the end of the program clients get to meet with employer’s face to face.
Meeting with employers showed John that he age wasn’t a factor in their consideration, and they were looking for attitude and ability to do the work.
Facilitator of the course, Wendy, said that John learned new skills but also changed his mindset.
“Work related training helps clients to equip them with soft skills and hard skills, as well as changing their mindset which can often be more of a barrier to employment,” said Wendy.
Since participating in the program, John’s confidence has increased. He has attended several interviews and is looking forward to his future employment.
“John has rebuilt his confidence. He is now striving for employment success,” said Wendy.
