Lauren lives with Cerebral Palsy and an intellectual disability. She was seeking guidance and coaching on how to find employment with her barriers.
She was connected to Job Coach, Erin who encouraged Lauren that together they would find the right role and the right employer for her.
Lauren thrives with clear instructions, so she can understand exactly what tasks she needs to complete. She needs guidance navigating task importance and urgency.
Lauren always engaged with Job Coach Erin and showed that she was determined to gain employment. She completed her Food Handlers certificate, First Aid and Barista course.
Erin made sure Lauren was referred to training programs which would support her learning style. They referred Lauren to small classes with training staff they knew would take the time to support her with her qualifications.
Soon employer engagement consultant, Lisa, had an opportunity that Lauren was interested in. Lisa referred Lauren for a food services role with GV Health.
Lauren was supported to purchase new clothes for her new job.
The atWork Australia team are working with GV Health to meet Lauren’s requirements of clear instructions, and someone who will let her know which tasks need to be done first.
By working together, Lauren is feeling supported and is thriving in her new employment.
“GV Health have been fantastic understanding Lauren’s barriers, and she is feeling supported, and valued in meaningful employment,” said Lisa.
“I feel like I have finally found employment that I am qualified to do,” said Lauren.
“In the kitchen we don’t save lives – we feed them which is just as important.”
