“I have transformed from a lost new graduate not knowing where to start in my career, to someone who is working happily in the Apple store full-time using my tech savvy mind. All thanks to my Job Coach and atWork Australia's guidance and support.” said Kerry

Workforce Australia Client, Kerry, had just graduated from his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. His long-term goal is to find employment in his field of study, but for now he needed employment to cover his everyday cost of living expenses.

Kerry had worked casually while he was in university in a clothing retail store, but his work experience was limited. His confidence had been impacted after setbacks in his job search.

He was connected to Job Coach, Alex, who supported Kerry with career guidance at this early stage in his employment journey.

“Kerry shared with me that he was feeling stressed, being a young graduate with little exposure to the workforce,” said Alex.

“He was also feeling financial stress without employment.”

Alex referred Kerry to the Employability Skills Training program through Workforce Australia which helps people develop workplace skills that employers want.

“Kerry gained a greater confidence in his skills, and what he has to offer in a workplace,” said Alex.

Alex worked with Kerry to focus on his skills, strengths and interests, to find a job he could enjoy while he continued to look for work in his field of study.

She showed Kerry how to job search and find jobs that matched his strengths and interests.

Feeling like he now had a plan and direction in his employment journey, Kerry began applying for roles that he thought he would enjoy.

“My Job Coach took good care of me with sufficient amount of information regarding how to start navigating in job hunting as a new graduate with my qualification and skills, to help me make informed choices in my job hunting,” said Kerry.

Kerry soon landed a role using his skills and interest in technology. He is now happily working full-time, building his work experience as he searches for a job in biomedical engineering.

“I have transformed from a lost new graduate not knowing where to start in my career, to someone who is working happily in the Apple store full-time using my tech savvy mind. All thanks to my Job Coach and atWork Australia’s guidance and support.” said Kerry.
