Noel is encouraged to never give up on his dream job

Recently released from incarceration, Noel was determined to find sustainable employment, so he didn’t fall back into old habits.

Noel shared his goal was to work in traffic control. He was referred to a traffic control course, however he failed to pass the course.

The team referred him to another course where he failed for the second time.

Noel felt like he wasn’t getting any feedback as to why he wasn’t passing the course, impacting on his self-esteem and confidence.

Instead of trying to change Noel’s work goals or preferences, his Job Coach, Boo, took the time to work closely with Noel to support him to pass the course.

“I encouraged Noel not to give up on employment he felt he could thrive in,” said Boo.

“As we connected, Noel started to share more information with me.”

Noel was feeling heard, valued and supported, and shared with Boo additional barriers including poor vision, and hearing. He felt this could be impacting his ability to pass the course.

Boo financially supported Noel to purchase glasses and supported him with his hearing loss.

He was enrolled for a third time into the traffic control course and this time passed.

The atWork Australia team connected him with an employer partner looking for traffic controllers and supported him to purchase work related clothing.

“Noel loves working in traffic control,” said Boo.

“His attitude has evolved into excitement and his passion and drive has elevated.”

“Boo has made me feel heard and supported me straight into my dream job. Thanks to Boo, I am confident and happy knowing my future is already brighter,” said Noel.
