55-year-old Robert, worked as a forklift driver for most of his life, until five years ago. He had to stop working to look after his wife who was unwell.
Unfortunately, Robert’s wife passed away, and the grief significantly impacted his wellbeing. He lost all motivation.
Following this, Robert lost his driver’s licence and his home.
Robert was attending his appointments with atWork Australia and his Job Coach, Hinal, however he wasn’t ready to return to work.
“While Robert wasn’t ready for work, he had indicated that when he was ready, he would like to return to work as a forklift driver,” said Hinal.
atWork Australia supported Robert to update his forklift ticket and supported him to regain his driver’s licence.
When Robert felt ready, the atWork Australia team connected him to an employer partner, Amazon.
“Amazon was a great fit for Robert because it aligned with his previous experience in physically active, warehouse-based work, including forklift operation,” said Hinal.
“The role required minimal customer interaction, suiting his current emotional state while allowing him to rebuild his confidence in a structured environment.”
Robert completed the induction, started work, and was really enjoying the job. However, due to Roberts living situation he needed to move out of town, almost 150km away.
Now equipped with his driver’s licence, updated forklift ticket and work experience he was feeling positive, motivated and hopeful.
