Sunzu migrated to Australia from Africa in 2024 with his family and settled in Wollongong. After a year and a half, he was yet to land employment and was connected to atWork Australia for assistance.
Job Coach, Rebecca, initially utilised Interpreter services to conduct Sunzu’s appointments. He was connected to the Adult English Migrant Program for additional support with his language skills.
Sunzu relied on public transport which limited his employment opportunities. atWork Australia supported him to participate in driving lessons to gain his licence.
atWork Australia provided flexible servicing to Sunzu including phone appointments when his transport was limited or he had caring responsibilities.
Sunzu’s confidence began to grow, and he soon landed an interview working in a factory. atWork Australia supported him to purchase work related clothing.
“Sunzu’s improved confidence was evident. He came to the office with a wide smile on his face,” said Job Coach, Rebecca.
Sunzu landed the role at the factory working part time while he continues his English study.
“His wife and children see Sunzu providing for his family and setting up a new life in Australia,” said Rebecca.
“They are really proud of him.”
“atWork Australia’s service has been personalised with my Job Coach offering phone and face to face appointments to fit around my English study and parenting responsibilities,” said Sunzu.
“I’m looking forward to the next steps of working part time, progressing my study and learning how to drive,” said Sunzu.
