Workforce Australia client, Sarah, had recently moved to the Geelong area in Victoria. She was connected to the atWork Australia office in Norlane for assistance to find work.
The office was close to Sarah’s home which was helpful as she didn’t have a driver’s licence.
She was connected to her Job Coach, also named Sarah, who helped her find a role that was right for her.
Sarah was living sober and wanted to ease her way back into the workforce so as not to risk a relapse. She shared that she wanted to use her lived experience to help other people in the community.
Sarah was connected to atWork Australia’s in house Wellness Services for support with her health and wellness.
atWork Australia then helped Sarah to enrol in a Certificate III in Community Services. She was connected to an online training organisation so she could complete her study at home.
This was tailored to Sarah’s needs, as she was concerned that she may not be able to attend her course without a driver’s licence.
When Sarah was ready to complete her placement, her Job Coach recommended the local Norlane Community Centre as it was nearby to her home and the atWork Australia office.
After her work placement, Sarah decided to continue volunteering at the Community Centre. atWork Australia supported her choice, as a good way to gain valuable work experience and connections within the community.
Shortly, Sarah was offered a paid six-week role at the community centre in the multicultural kitchen, to cover another colleague who was going on leave.
atWork Australia supported Sarah to top up her public transport card during this time to ensure she could get to and from work.
She was also supported to upskill and complete a short barista’s course for the role.
Sarah is now qualified to work in Community Services, and with this valuable experience in the community her confidence is improving.
“Since moving to Geelong, Sarah from atWork Australia has supported me with training and my wellbeing, leading me to employment,” said Sarah.
