"I'm really excited to start work. The job sounds great, and it is close to home. I really appreciate all the support from atWork Australia."

Adam was in sustainable employment as a maintenance worker until August 2024.

When he met atWork Australia Job Coach, Helen, he shared that he was finding it difficult to gain employment. He didn’t have any reliable references for his resume, relied on public transport and due to a skin condition needed a role where he wasn’t outdoors too often.

Adam was also the primary carer for his parents, so he needed something nearby to his home. Adam wanted to seek employment in forklift roles or indoor warehouse positions.

Helen supported Adam to prepare for these types of roles by enrolling him in a forklift course to gain his ticket. He also participated in work experience at a warehouse to help him gain a reference for his resume, and to help him improve his skills in warehouse work.

Adam also attended a local First Steps to Success event where he had the opportunity to meet with local warehousing employers. This helped Adam gain more confidence in speaking with employers and sharing details about his skills and experience.

Helen then referred Adam to speak with Employment Engagement Consultant, Jane, to discuss suitable job opportunities.

Jane shared a role as a Production Assistant and while Adam was interested, the role was a bit too far from his home.

Not long after this, the employer reached out to Jane looking for someone at their Para Hills site, which was a lot closer to home for Adam.

As the role was only advertised to atWork Australia clients and not publicly, this gave Adam an advantage when being considered for the role.

“Adam put his hand up straight away for this role. Jane and I assisted Adam with the process of meeting with the employer, organising the interview and work trial,” said Helen.

“And then completing the onboarding process, which has resulted in Adam commencing his first day of work as a Production Assistant.”

The atWork Australia team supported Adam to prepare for his first day with work clothes, boots, background clearances, and most importantly confidence.

“I’m really excited to start work. The job sounds great, and it is close to home. I really appreciate all the support from atWork Australia,” said Adam.
