Vanessa moved to Australia in the hopes of creating a better life for her family.
Her goal was to become independent to support her family and move them from Lebanon to Australia. Upon arrival she faced many barriers including language barriers, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, limited work experience and no formal qualifications.
Vanessa was first connected to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services for support with her mental health as she worried about the ongoing conditions for her family in her home country.
Job Coach, Zubda, worked with Vanessa to reach her employment goals of working in administration. Zubda referred Vanessa to short course in Business Administration, and she was connected to the Skills for Education and Employment program for additional support with her language, literacy and numeracy skills.
“Vanessa was provided with practical supports including transport card top ups, food vouchers, short course enrolments, workwear, and a laptop to assist in overcoming financial barriers,” said Zubda.
“These resources were aimed at reducing immediate financial stress, supporting her participation in training and volunteering, and enabling her to upskill and work towards sustainable employment.”
Determined to find work in administration, Vanessa participated in work experience while she completed her study, so that she had some experience to add to her resume.
Zubda updated Vanessa’s resume to include all of her training and experience, and it wasn’t long before Vanessa found a job working as an administration assistant.
