When Workforce Australia client, Cass, first connected with atWork Australia she had zero confidence she would find work. Physically, Cass had limitations, and her motivation to actively seek work was low.
Cass advised she had few friends, and a very limited support system.
Working with her Job Coach, Corey, Cass agreed to upskill and prepare for work. To begin with, Corey organised for registered training organisations to come to the atWork Australia site, a place where she was comfortable instead of somewhere unknown.
She was then enrolled in a Certificate III in Pathology and during the course she started to make friends.
Corey encouraged Cass to continue to upskill through training, creating more friendships and building her network of support.
Through her regular meetings with Corey, and through the friendships and social connections she was making through her training, she started to become more motivated to search for work.
Cass then started actively requesting referrals into activities to help her continue to engage with others. During this time, Cass also improved her physical ability, and she was then enrolled in a traffic control course.
The traffic control course included a work placement, so the atWork Australia team supported Cass to gain the personal protective equipment she would need.
“Cass is a wonderful soul,” said Job Coach, Corey.
“By engaging and attending her appointments it has impacted her self-belief and value to make friendships and be motivated. Her well being has been impacted positively on many levels.”
Cass’s long-term goal is to find employment in pathology collection, but for now she is excited to explore a traffic control role after her work placement.
“I’m looking forward to my placement,” said Cass.
“I can’t thank Corey enough for being understanding and for having flexibility to meet with me if I needed support,” said Cass.
