Darcy had the same employment goal as many young people. She wanted a full-time job at a popular retail store.
However, as an early school leaver with little employment history, she needed some help to progress towards this goal.
She was connected with Job Coach, Tracey, for support. To build Darcy’s confidence and help her learn the essential skills for her retail store dream, Tracey connected Darcy to short course.
The course was called the ‘Retail Service Experience’ and was a 5-day program focused on creating a unique pop-up shop that the clients worked at over the week.
They learnt skills such as how to use a cash register, manage a till and use EFTPOS machines. They also learnt about product placement, merchandising, managing inventory and in-store interactions.
After completing the course, and filled with confidence, Darcy applied for the role at the retail store.
She successfully landed the role however needed financial support to start der dream job.
Darcy needed to purchase her own uniform and shoes required for the role. atWork Australia supported her to purchase these items.
The employer also required a copy of Darcy’s birth certificate which she didn’t have.
Tracey and the team supported Darcy to connect with NSW Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages, and financially supported her to gain a copy of her birth certificate.
I started off really struggling to find employment until I came into atWork Australia Warrawong,” said Darcy.
