Melissa lives with Agoraphobia and Anxiety. She was also a mother with caring responsibilities.
Melissa hasn’t held paid employment in the last five years. She wanted to return to work but needed some additional guidance. She was connected to atWork Australia and Job Coach, Helen.
Helen connected Melissa to our in-house Wellness Services and over time began to feel comfortable with the atWork Australia team. She began to attend face-to-face appointments.
During these appointments, Helen took the time to get to know Melissa. She listened to her needs and let her take the time she needed to feel ready to get back into the workforce.
Soon Melissa felt prepared to attend face-to-face training. She participated in atWork Australia’s Money Minded course within the office, a familiar location. She then participated in other short courses to upskill.
Helen, then referred Melissa to a job as a Customer Service Representative. She spoke to Employment Engagement Consultant Peter, about the position.
She attended the information session, interview and successfully landed the role with the employer.
Melissa feels excited and fulfilled in achieving this milestone.
She feels ready to start working and plans to spend her first paycheck on a sushi date between mother and daughter.
“Melissa has gained more self-belief, confidence and positive attitude towards her abilities and what she is capable of,” said Job Coach Helen.
“She went from not being able to leave the house to showing up and wanting to do better by initiating ideas to help herself move in the right direction.”
“I can’t wait to start working and my daughter is so excited for me too,” said Melissa.
