Disability Employment Services client, Skye had been out of work for five years caring for her child and for a family member who was in the final stages of their life.
These caring responsibilities have shown Skye that she had a passion for helping and caring for others, especially at the end of life.
Skye also lives with a back injury, and through her experience, knows this profession can work for her and her health needs.
When she came into the atWork Australia office in Ravenswood, and met with Job Coach Lisa, she had solid employment goals.
To become a palliative care nurse.
Having been unemployed for some time, Skye needed financial assistance to help her realise her dream.
atWork Australia supported Skye to enroll in a Certificate III in Individual Support for aged care. The first step on her journey of becoming a palliative care nurse.
This included supporting Skye to gain her unique student identifier (USI) and to pay for the police check required to undertake the course.
The team also financially supported her to purchase a laptop so that she could complete this study.
“Skye has solid employment goals but needed financial support to start studying in the field she is passionate about,” said Job Coach, Lisa.
“By helping her realise her dream, we are setting her up for success with sustainable employment.”
The course Skye is completing is through an online study provider. This means she can complete the course around her caring responsibilities for her child.
“Skye is excited to start a career in something she is so passionate about,” said Lisa.
