Workforce Australia client, Tamalisi, is a primary parent carer looking for support to find meaningful employment.
She was connected to Job Coach, Alex, at the Berala atWork Australia office.
At her first appointment she shared with Alex that her goal was to work in childcare during school hours. She was currently in the process of studying a course in childcare.
“Tamalisi has progressed so much since her first appointment,” said Alex.
“She would often miss her appointments due to external stressors and low motivation.”
Tamalisi shared with Alex that financial instability was impacting her motivation, and she felt stressed around budgeting for her household.
She was referred into atWork Australia’s in house course Money Minded for support with her financial literacy and budgeting.
Alex continued to encourage Tamalisi, and suggested she enrol in Employability Skills Training. A program offered to support clients develop skills that businesses want, explore career options and improve job search skills.
These skills would be beneficial for Tamalisi when she had finished her study.
Participating in this course gave Tamalisi the momentum she needed. Her motivation increased and with the support of Alex, she started to apply for roles in childcare.
Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful in her applications as she didn’t have any experience.
Alex encouraged her to keep applying, and that she would find an employer willing to give her a chance. She further supported Tamalisi to complete her first aid certificate.
Tamalisi kept on working towards her goal, and soon enough she had landed a job working as a casual educator within school hours.
“Tamalisi is happy to be working in childcare. She has gained self-belief and confidence in her abilities,” said Alex.
