Disability Employment Services client, Zara*, lives with debilitating migraines.
When she met Job coach, Jaswin, at the Hurstville atWork Australia office, she wasn’t sure who would hire her.
She had recently been employed. However, the employer wasn’t understanding of her medical conditions, and always made her feel like her efforts were not appreciated.
Jaswin took the time to get to know Zara, including her employment goals and medical conditions. She worked with Zara to create a plan to help her progress towards sustainable employment.
This included providing flexible servicing including phone appointments where needed.
“When I first met Zara, she was unmotivated,” said Jaswin.
“She wanted work but with an employer who was understanding, flexible, and where she could put her strengths and abilities to good use.”
“I was very fortunate to be paired with Jaswin,” said Zara.
“I could not have asked for a more gentle, kind and caring Job Coach to help me get back into the workforce.”
Jaswin worked with Zara to boost her motivation, encouraging her that she would find a role that was the perfect fit for her. They worked on updating her resume and building interview skills.
Jaswin approached Zara with a job opportunity with an employer who she knew was understanding, supportive and flexible, and had a workplace culture that would support Zara to thrive.
“Zara was keen to give it a shot, so we put her forward for an interview,” said Jaswin.
She successfully landed the role and shared with Jaswin that she felt heard in her new role as a pick packer in a factory.
“She also shared another thing she enjoys about the new job, the workplace environment. Even the workers respect and help her whenever she needs help. Now she looks forward to going to work,” said Jaswin.
After finding work with a supportive, inclusive employer, Zara has her self-belief back.
“Every step of the way I felt very supported and most importantly, not pressured into doing anything. As a result, I have come out with a great job where I feel valued, comfortable and super happy,” said Zara.
