When atWork Australia first connected with ISS Cleaning they followed standard recruitment practices such as traditional interviews, and full time or part-time roles only.
Since this time the team now accommodate flexible hours and have worked with atWork Australia to create a bespoke training program as a pathway to employment.
atWork Australia clients participate in a unique Identify and Prepare for Employment program (IPEP), which allows ISS cleaning to prioritise employees who are reliable, hard-working and committed to doing a good job.
Recently, an IPEP for ISS Cleaning was hosted in our Marrickville office, resulting in six new reliable employees.
The program was held across three days. On day one and two clients learnt more about the values, culture and working environment at ISS Cleaning, they learnt cleaning skills related to the role, and explored the physical requirements of the role, equipment they would use and more.
They then learnt soft skills required for the role, met with the employer and were prepared for the interview.
“On day three, Bhupinder from ISS attended the program to fast-track clients directly into School Cleaning roles with ISS facilities,” said Partnership Manager, Stewart.
Client, Changhui, was living with anxiety. Through IPEP, she became comfortable with the role requirements reducing her anxiety about her abilities and what the role included. Changhui had a background in childcare, she knew how to keep spaces safe, clean, and how to handle chemicals. All skills which made her an ideal fit for her new school cleaner role.
“After participating in IPEP, she was very confident. Steady preparation supported her to overcome her worries, and apply for the role,” said pre-employment facilitator, Wendy.
“ISS Cleaning gained a reliable worker with the right skills they needed, and someone who would not have applied for the role through traditional methods.”
Lili lives with Pituitary Macroadenoma, which can cause headaches, impact vision and other health impacts. She felt her medical condition would impact her ability to work. By attending IPEP she learnt the requirements of the role, how they fit with her abilities, values and culture of the business. She applied knowing the team was committed to inclusion and diversity.
Once clients begin work with ISS, atWork Australia continues to offer support, to ensure both employer and clients are thriving in work.
“Recently the ISS team noticed a client was travelling a distance from home to work added unnecessary strain. They worked with us to offer an alternative location to cut their travel time in half,” said Stewart.
“This has led to greater retention for the ISS team.”
“The IPEP program allowed ISS Cleaning to access reliable staff who they may not have met through traditional hiring methods,” said Wendy.
