First Nations client, Justin, is goal driven. He had been working in hospitality but wanted to change his career to support work.
atWork Australia supported Justin to upskill by completing a First Aid certificate and gain his NDIS clearance and police check.
“Justin has a high energy and vibrant attitude,” said pre-employment facilitator Wendy.
“His personality wasn’t shining through during his interviews.”
As Justin was changing careers, he had limited self-confidence and wasn’t sure how to highlight his transferable skills during interviews.
Justin was referred to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services for support with his wellbeing. He was also referred to atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program with pre-employment facilitator, Wendy.
“Justin lacked confidence regarding interview techniques,” said Wendy.
“He got stuck with interview questions, especially behavioural questions.”
After attending the Jobs for the Mob workshop, a pre-employment course aimed at supporting clients to learn goal setting, and how to prepare for interviews, Justin improved his skills.
He learnt how to use new interview techniques, including storytelling.
Soon Justin attended a few interviews where he put into practice all he had learnt during the program.
He then landed work as a support worker. His new employer said that Justin was a wonderful team player, with strong work ethics and good time management. Key transferrable skills he was able to showcase during his interview.
Justin is now thriving and enjoying his new role as a support worker.
“Learning interview techniques helped me master the art of storytelling, and landed me a job in a new career path,” said Justin.
