“atWork Australia changed my life by empowering me on my employment journey.”– Tylah

Tylah’s employment goal was to find full time work and rebuild routine in her life. She wasn’t sure what kind of industry she wanted to work in.

Together with her Job Coach, Stephen, they discussed looking at a career in the mines. Tylah was hesitant at first, due to the high cost of all the tickets and licences she would need.

However, she was happy to give it a go, when she learnt atWork Australia could support her to gain all the qualifications and licences she would need. atWork Australia connected Tylah to training, including purchasing work related clothing for the industry.

She was then connected to pre-employment facilitator, Maureen, who hosted a three-day course, Identify and Prepare for employment IPEP, on behalf of employer Sodexo. Following this course, Tylah gained fly-in fly-out work in the mines.

“atWork Australia has helped me gain the confidence to continue relationships with potential employers and networking within the industry. Spending the money on tickets and licenses was the reason I even got to the mines in the first place and that helped me out so much,” said Tylah.

After a few months, Tylah realised fly-in fly-out was not the right fit. The atWork Australia team supported Tylah to look at different industries, and she was referred back to Maureen to connect with other employers.

She then participated in the IPEP program for TSA working in a call centre and has now been fast tracked to the next stage of recruitment.

Tylah was connected to community organisation, Dress for Success, for assistance to build her confidence dressing for a more corporate environment.

“I’ve really appreciated the incredible support network provided by Pre-Employment Facilitator, Maureen and Job Coach, Stephen,” said Tylah.

“The IPEP courses gave me the opportunity to connect with other people who were in a similar circumstance to me.”

“The communication skills and interview preparation tools we explored throughout the program gave me the confidence to attend job interviews and present myself professionally. Without this support, I would not have felt ready to take those important steps toward employment.”

“atWork Australia changed my life by empowering me on my employment journey,” said Tylah.
