Returning to work after 20 years has restored Maroun’s sense of purpose and independence.
Maroun moved to Australia as a refugee approximately 20 years ago. He first focused on his English language skills, and as time passed, he became less confidence to return to work.
Maroun was connected to Job Coach, Shehadeh for support to return to work.
“With tailored support, I assisted him in identifying suitable employment options that matched his current skills and circumstances,” said Shehadeh.
“Together, we explored self-employment opportunities, which led to securing work as an Uber Eats delivery driver.”
Gig-based delivery work supported Maroun’s employment goals because it required minimal prior work experience and supported his independence without pressure as he could work the hours that suited him.
Shehadeh supported Maroun at every stage of his journey.
“I supported the client through every step of the process, including downloading and setting up the Uber Eats application, assisting with uploading documentation and completing requirements, guiding him through all associated fees and registrations,” said Shehadeh.
“I also provided hands-on support by accompanying him during his first delivery trips.”
As a result, Maroun successfully commenced work and is now actively earning income. Gaining employment has had a significant and positive impact on the Maroun’s life.
“He is now able to earn his own income, which has reduced financial stress and increased his ability to contribute to his daily living expenses. Maroun no longer feeling isolated or unsure of his abilities and is now more willing to step outside his comfort zone,” said Shehadeh.
