Mathew recently moved to Perth with the dream of becoming a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) worker in the mines. He didn’t have any experience in that industry and knew it would be difficult to get a foot in the door.
The atWork Australia team encouraged Mathew to go for his goals, however understood his urgent need for employment.
With a good understanding of the employers and industry in the region, atWork Australia referred Mathew to complete his traffic control ticket and white card. The employer engagement team then connected him to a role in traffic control.
He was then connected to In-Work Support Coach Bree, who supported him with work related clothing for his traffic control job.
They regularly discussed his long-term goal of employment in the FIFO industry, and when employer Sodexo held an information session in the atWork Australia office, Mathew was invited to attend.
Mathew landed an interview, and Bree supported him to look his best for the interview with new interview clothes.
The role was for a FIFO role in hospitality, and while the employer was keen to employ Mathew, he would need to obtain an updated responsible service of alcohol ticket.
Bree supported him to complete the qualification and provided him with fuel to get to his medical to land the job.
“Working in a role Mathew really wanted will provide him with a long-term sustainable career,” said Bree.
Bree will continue to work with Mathew to ensure he is settling in well to his new job.
“Helping find employment, fuel and food vouchers, and having someone to discuss issues with was great. I’m excited for my new FIFO employment,” said Mathew.
