When 65-year-old Ross connected with atWork Australia in Riverwood, he had a goal of working full time.
However, he was lacking motivation as due to his age, he had begun to believe that no one would employ him.
He connected with Workforce Australia Job Coach, Shehadeh, who worked with Ross to rebuild his motivation.
They looked at Ross’s past work history, interests, and personal goals.
Ross shared that he liked working outdoors and being active.
He had recently held employment as a maintenance worker and enjoyed the role.
He also shared with Shehadeh, that many of the roles he had interest in required a white card, which he did not have.
Shehadeh supported Ross to pay for and complete his white card.
While they searched for roles, Ross decided he would like to try to work for himself as a handyman.
Shehadeh threw his support behind Ross’s idea. Encouraging him to give it a go.
He thought that it was a wonderful idea with Ross’s vast experience and enjoyment of the work.
The atWork Australia team was by his side as he organised an ABN number, and they purchased Ross some work-related clothing to start his new business.
“Ross and I learned that it is never too late to start a new business,” said Shehadeh.
