Travis has a work history in logistics and warehousing. He then experienced a back injury which required Travis to look at a new career.
He was connected to atWork Australia in Bundoora and Job Coach, Angus for support.
Travis initially landed some delivery work, but it aggravated his back injury, and he was back to the drawing board on a new career.
Angus worked with Travis to explore different industries and avenues aligned to his goals and interests.
Travis shared he was interested in Support Work, as his housemate worked in that industry, and told Travis it was a fulfilling role.
Angus connected Travis to an employer information session to learn more about the industry.
After that session, Travis was keen to start work as a Support Worker. Angus supported him to gain all the necessary requirements such as a NDIS Screening check, first aid certificate and more.
Angus connected with the training organisations in advance to ensure the training would be supportive of Travis’s back injury.
In their appointments, Travis and Angus explored different paths into Support Work. Travis had previously been self-employed and wanted to pursue that option in Support Work.
“Travis says he feels really empowered by his work,” said Angus.
“His current work is sustainable, and he feels like he can finally start progressing forward with his life and recovery from his injury.”
