Workforce Australia Client, Sofia, has a culturally diverse background. She arrived in Australia as a refugee.
She was connected to InWork Support Coach, Anthonette, when she landed work as a cleaner.
During her first appointment with Anthonette, she shared that her dream job was to work at Woolworths. She had some friends who worked there who had shared how wonderful Woolworths was as an employer.
She was happy in her cleaning role until a role became available within the local Woolworths store.
When Anthonette asked what she needed assistance with for now, she shared that gaining her Driver’s Licence would help her to pick up more cleaning shifts.
Anthonette supported Sofia financially to purchase driving lessons, and soon enough she gained her licence and increased her hours.
Sofia continued to be supported by atWork Australia as she hadn’t yet reached her goal working hours through her cleaning position.
Then, atWork Australia was approached by Community Corporate and Woolworths who were working together with Workforce Australia on a project to support culturally diverse, and refugee, clients into work at Woolworths.
Anthonette thought of Sofia right away, as she was the perfect fit for this unique opportunity.
She was so excited to learn about the opportunity. Sofia was supported to prepare for the role by participating in a three-day program hosted by Community Corporate.
In March 2026, she landed her dream job working in Woolworths.
Sofia is now thriving in employment at Woolworths, while she continues to keep her cleaning role for the additional boost in income.
“It was great to celebrate with Sofia as she started work in her dream role,” said Anthonette.
