Humam has always had a passion for serving people. He has experience in the hospitality industry and hoped to return to work at a restaurant. His long-term goal is to one day open his own restaurant.
English is Humam’s second language, which was proving to be a barrier for Humam to gain employment.
“I was so stressed as I wasn’t working for a long time and as I’m not good at English that was a barrier for me to get a job,” said Humam.
Humam was starting to lose his confidence in his ability to gain employment.
Humam’s Job Coach referred Humam to our First Steps to Success event to meet with employer’s face to face. He also met with atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement Consultant, Erum.
Together Erum, and Job Coach, Aarshi, encouraged Humam, boosting his confidence and belief in his abilities.
“My Job Coach encouraged me and Erum showed that she was confident in me,” said Humam.
Erum referred Humam to several roles, and he was soon successful in a hospitality role as a kitchenhand and waiter.
“Humam was thrilled when he was selected by Erum to go forward to interview with an employer in the hospitality space,” said Iosefo, Humam’s In-Work Support Coach.
“Erum guided me through the application and onboarding while my Job Coach supported me financially prepare for work with boots and an opal top up,” said Humam.
“Erum showed she was confident in me and my abilities. She arranged an interview and I got the job,” said Humam.
