Inclusive Employment Australia client, Chris, had worked as a forklift driver for many years. It was a role he enjoyed and wanted to continue.
However, Chris’s health had other plans. Now living with lower limb deficiencies, Chris was finding it hard to find a pathway forward from his previous work in a fast-paced warehouse.
Chris was connected to Job Coach, Gennady, and shared that he was applying for work but wasn’t getting many interviews, despite his extensive experience.
“Chris felt there was not the opportunity, since his last job, to continue to apply himself in his craft,” said Gennedy.
“I suggested teaching others to use the forklift. While he briefly thought of this option some time ago, it had escaped him in the belief it wasn’t a plausible option.”
Together they did some investigation, reviewing available jobs, and calling registered training organisations.
Chris discovered there was opportunity for him to teach, however he would require his Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Gennedy supported Chris to enrol in the course.
“Chris is now hopeful he can continue doing what he loves, just in a different capacity,” said Gennedy.
Chris feels a renewed sense of motivation now that he is less concerned about how his body would hold up if he needed to obtain another job in a busy warehouse, doing traditional, physically demanding, store person tasks.
Chris is looking forward to continuing working on the forklift for some time to come and is grateful not have to change his occupation significantly into an entirely new career path.
“Chris feels more positive and optimistic about his future,” said Gennedy.
