28-year-old, Mel, was still searching for his first Job. He had been applying for work for the last 10 years and found his lack of work experience to be the biggest barrier to landing a job.
Mel also lives with Depression which impacts his self-confidence and self-belief.
atWork Australia in Warnbro, Western Australia, has been working with Woolworths to remove traditional recruitment processes to support people like Mel into employment.
He was invited to attend a walkthrough of the local Woolworths location. The walkthrough’s allowed Mel to meet the employer in person and understand the workplace culture and working environment before applying for a role.
It provides Woolworths with the opportunity to meet potential candidates and assess if their values, culture and work ethic matches their culture, and roles available.
Mel had previously struggled to land interviews through traditional methods as his resume has no work experience.
After the walkthrough, Mel was keen to apply and gained an interview. His Job Coach, Tayla, supported him to prepare for the interview.
Having met the Woolworths team in advance helped Matthew feel more confident, and he landed the job.
Tayla supported Mel to purchase work pants for his new role and supported him with food vouchers, so he had food for lunches and energy to start work.
“Mel has now been working at Woolworths for over six months now and has secured a permanent part-time contract,” said Tayla.
