Tim joined atWork Australia with extensive support work experience and all the required qualifications.
He was living with barriers to employment including a traumatic brain injury and age-related health conditions, as an almost 70-year-old.
Tim wanted to work, he wanted a sense of purpose and to remain busy.
His Job Coach, Ananya, worked closely with him, providing interview chaperoning, reverse marketing, and vouchers to keep him moving forward.
Despite their hard work, Tim faced several, unexpected barriers. Despite an innocent verdict, a previous court case had impacted his working with children check stopping his career in Support Work.
Tim also had to rely on public transport limiting his employment opportunities. Despite many hours of study, with Ananya by his side, Tim was unable to pass the Driver Knowledge Test.
He also had physical limitations including standing, bending or carrying items which lead to many unsuccessful interviews in cleaning, warehousing and pick-packing roles.
“Throughout years of rejections, Tim showed incredible resilience and never once refused an interview,” said Ananya.
“He continued to want to work and keep fighting for employment.”
Ananya advocated tirelessly for Tim, and finally after partnering with local employer engagement consultant, Katrina, Tim secured a trial at a local pizza shop.
The role was a good fit for Tim, close to public transport, and within his physical abilities.
“Tim excelled, won the job, and is now happily working as one of the employer’s favourite team members,” said Ananya.
“Ananya always welcomes me with a big smile. She goes above and beyond to help me not only find a job but keep on trying,” said Tim.
