“I finally feel like I’ve got my foot in the door after years of being out of work. I’m proud I got the job,”– Ryan

22-year-old Workforce Australia client, Ryan, had spent the last four years studying graphic design. When he finished his studies, he found it harder to land work than expected.

“Ryan faced ongoing barriers entering the workforce due to his limited work experience, and a highly competitive job market influenced by changing technology,” said atWork Australia facilitator, Shameer.

Ryan was seeking direction, confidence and practical support to break into employment.

atWork Australia explored possible career pathways Ryan might be interested in, and he was invited to participate in a bespoke training program called Identify and Prepare for Employment Program (IPEP) with employer Probe CX.

Probe CX is a large employer, and with his foot in the door, Ryan may have the opportunity to move into different teams, and roles within the company.

Ryan was excited by the opportunity and felt the customer service roll being advertised would support him learn key skills he could take into any job.

On day one of the training program, Ryan learned more about the role, and the expectations. On day two he attended a walkthrough of the workplace where he met with employer, Sharon.

“Ryan shared that the walkthrough of the workplace shared valuable insight into the workplace environment, and strengthened his interest in the role,” said Shameer.

On day three, Ryan completed interview preparation activities, developing confidence in communication, teamwork and responding to employer questions.

Following this, he met with employer Sharon, who he had been introduced to in the walkthrough to participate in an interview.

“Ryan had confidence when he went to the interview, he had already met Sharon, been to the workplace, and was prepared to highlight his skills in the interview as he knew the role expectations well,” said Shameer.

Through a structed, employer-connected training program, Ryan found a clear path into meaningful employment.

“Ryan has shifted from feeling stuck, to feeling optimistic about his future, and ability to grow within the workplace,” said Shameer.

“I finally feel like I’ve got my foot in the door after years of being out of work. I’m proud I got the job,” said Ryan.
