Trent spent over 30 years working in hospitality, primarily in pubs and licensed venues. While that career gave him a strong foundation in customer service and venue operations, the environment also contributed to Trent developing a dependency on alcohol.
Trent made the decision to step away from the industry entirely to priorities his health and wellbeing.
He came to atWork Australia and connected with Job Coach, Irene, looking for a new career.
“Trent wanted to transition to the construction industry,” said Irene.
“Reflecting his desire for new experiences and a fresh start in hands on environment.”
“Together we sat through many deep and meaningful conversations, unpacking what anxiety looks and feels like for him, and building practical, strategies.”
For the past 17 years, Trent had been without a driver’s licence. Together they acknowledged that transport and independence were barriers to Trent achieving his employment goals.
atWork Australia funded driving lessons for Trent and connected him to upskilling courses nearby to public transport including a white card and working from heights ticket.
“Trent called me excited to share that he had successfully gained his drivers licence,” said Irene.
“Something that may seem small to others was significant for him. It represented independence and proof that hard work pays. He was proving to himself that a new future was genuinely in reach.”
“Irene has taken time to speak to me and properly explain things in a way that makes it easy for me to understand,” said Trent.
“She has been so supportive in getting tickets and my licence. I feel ready for work now.”
Trent has now successfully landed work and is progressing through the onboarding to start the role.
“I’m looking forward to my future job and career,” said Trent.
