Siti, originally from Indonesia, was looking for work in the warehousing industry.
Siti had low English language skills. Her goal was to work in warehousing where less communication was required.
Siti is also the primary carer for her children, so she also needed a job with flexible hours to allow her to continue to care for her children.
She connected with Job Coach, Wahidah, and Housam, in Lakemba for support to find employment.
Siti shared she had been applying for roles within the warehousing industry for a while and was starting to give up hope as she hadn’t even landed an interview yet.
Wahidah first recommended Siti to the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program run by the Australian Government for support with her English skills. The program delivers language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills.
In addition to this, Wahidah and Siti practiced interview questions that highlighted her strengths and abilities, building her confidence to be able to respond well with every question they practiced together.
After weeks of practice, Siti was ready to start putting her new interview skills into action.
Wahidah organised for Siti to interview with a dairy manufacturer.
“With all of Siti’s interview practice and new confidence, she interviewed well, and landed the job,” said Wahidah.
atWork Australia then supported Siti to purchase the work-related clothing she needed for her new role.
Siti has recently passed the probation period in her new role and is now a permanent employee.
“With practice Siti became confident in her interview skills. She is grateful for the opportunity to be employed,” said Wahidah.
