Inclusive Employment Australia client, Sharni, has a passion for cooking. She had previous experience as a kitchen hand, mostly responsible for cleaning dishes, and delivering meals to customers.
She enjoyed the work, but it made her more passionate about being in the kitchen as a cook.
In preparation for her goal, she completed a food safety certificate and a short course in hospitality to build her kitchen skills.
“Sharni is a friendly and hard-working young woman,” said Job Coach, Ann-Maree.
“She wanted to learn to cook different types of food.”
When a role became available at The Brew Café working one day a week, Sharni jumped at the opportunity.
atWork Australia supported her to purchase work related clothing to start her new job.
“She has worked hard to achieve this goal and has learnt so much through this position, like learning how to follow recipes, shopping for ingredients, trying different recipes when she is at home and the responsibilities that come with working in a team environment in the hospitality field,” said Ann-Maree.
Café Manager, Tiffany, said that Sharni is a welcome addition to their team.
“Sharni is a very happy and bubbly person who comes in every Monday, and bakes scones for us all,” said Tiffany.
Sharni is now working towards gaining more hours at The Brew Crew Café.
“Working at The Brew Crew Café has improved my skills a lot. I want to keep working here because I’m learning new things every day” said Sharni.
