When Christabel first joined atWork Australia, she was struggling with depression and a lack of direction following a traumatic car accident.
She had physical injuries which impacted her ability to walk.
“She shared the harrowing details of a car crash that had left her with a traumatic brain injury and required the surgical placement of screws and plates throughout her body,” said Job Coach, Ananya.
Christabel expressed a deep-rooted passion for the retail industry. However, Christabel acknowledged that her current physical limitations prevent her from standing for long periods.
Feeling a sense of uncertainty about her future, she admitted to feeling aimless and was unsure how to pivot her skills toward a different path.
Over the next six months, Christabel made remarkable progress, transitioning to walking independently and regaining her motivation.
During this transition, she discovered a passion for Para-volleyball, which boosted her confidence and led to a part-time role as a referee.
Christabel was then connected to Employer Engagement Consultant, Erum, who introduced her to employer, Flora, from G!Bowl.
Christabel secured the position at the restaurant, where she quickly became a valued member of the team.
Ananya continued to support Christabel maintain her meaningful employment.
She supported her to purchase specialised shoes to support her injuries while standing and helped her with a fuel voucher to get to and from work.
Ananya kept in regular contact with Christabel to check in on how she was handling the tasks at work.
During one appointment she mentioned she was struggling to mop the floors due to her physical abilities. Ananya passed this information onto Employer Engagement Consultant, Erum, who worked with the employer to change Christabel’s tasks.
This way she could focus on her strengths of front of house.
“Christabel has successfully settled into her new career in hospitality,” said Ananya.
