When grief, and a medical condition, impacted Fiona’s employment journey, atWork Australia helped her get back on track.
Fiona had held solid employment for most of her life, however her sister passed away, at the same time she was healing for surgery.
It all became too much for Fiona, and she considered giving up working.
“When I first met Fiona, she instantly came in and requested a medical exemption. She explained everything she was going through and was very visibly upset,” said Job Coach, Brooke.
“I gave Fiona my time and attention to really understand her circumstances and shared all of the supports we could offer including our wellness services.”
Fiona decided to continue to work with atWork Australia and access wellness services, rather than seek an exemption.
Over the coming appointments, Brooke got to know Fiona and gradually watched her spark return. Fiona shared she wanted to change industries and do something more meaningful such as support work.
She gained employment, and Brooke supported her to gain her working with children’s check, and police clearance. Brooke provided a fuel voucher to support Fiona get to work those first few weeks.
“Job Coach, Brooke is caring, very professional, and always with a smile. She is very understanding and a great listener,” said Fiona.
“She never speaks over me, waiting very patiently until I finish speaking. Brooke will always go that step further to find out as much information as possible to help me and always follows up with me when she says she will.”
Fiona has recently been supported to gain her first aid certificate to help her gain additional hours.
“Job Coach, Brooke, is very caring and never judges me on any level. She really cares about her role, and helping people,” said Fiona.
